APC Says UK Ex-secretary Of State Not Abreast With Reality In Nigeria

July 12, 2018

The All Progressives Congress (APC), United Kingdom chapter says that Ms. Priti Patel, a former Secretary of State for International Development in the U K is not abreast with present happenings in Nigeria.

Mr Ade Omole, leader of the chapter said this in a statement made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Abuja.

Omole was reacting to the recent allegation by Patel that the President Muhammadu Buhari led-administration’s fight against corruption had not recorded remarkable success.

The former U.K Secretary of State had also said that the Nigerian Government had continued to flout international laws and conventions by refusing to respect various court decisions.

Patel, a Member of Parliament had warned foreign investors against doing business in Nigeria, saying the country was not secured.

In a swift reaction, the Presidency had on Tuesday in a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu said Patel goofed.

Omole said that Patel`s claims could only be in her imagination as the situation on ground proved the contrary as attested to by other world figures.

“The erroneous conclusion of Patel on Nigeria negates the affirmation of the British Lords and Members of Parliament that attended the recently concluded interactive session by APC UK in the House of Lords within the House of Parliament.

“The Lords and MPs took turns to praise the Buhari-led administration, especially in its drive to ensure and continually improve the Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria.

“Lord Raymond Asquith, 3rd Earl of Oxford and Asquith who hosted the event commended the APC-led Federal Government for its commitment and delivery of good solutions evidenced by the noteworthy milestones achieved so far,’’ Omole said.

He said that Patel`s assessment and allegation about Nigeria should not be taken seriously, especially because she was forced to resign from British Government cabinet after misleading the UK Prime Minister.

According to him, Patel’s outburst about Nigeria is another case of misinformation, this time, to mislead the international community.

He said that the Presidency was gaining grounds in all facet of the Nigerian economy, adding that security in the North-East which was hitherto a strong hold of the Boko Haram sect was guaranteed more than before.

Omole noted that the administration had made commendable efforts in tackling Nigeria’s security challenges and was delivering quality infrastructure across the country for investment and businesses to strive.

The APC chieftain noted that the administration was providing and improving critical infrastructure, especially roads and railways to ensure ease of movement of goods and services.

According to him, the country is safe for foreign investors and for business to strive.

NAN recalls that Patel resigned over supposedly undisclosed meeting in Israel following a showdown talk with Prime Minister Teresa May.

She resigned after being summoned back from a trip to Uganda and Ethiopia by Downing Street after it was revealed that she failed to be candid with May about 14 unofficial meetings with Israeli ministers.
